Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) limit his ablution to a mudd? Is a mudd sufficient for performing a thorough ablution? And what is a thorough ablution?

Al-Bukhari narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to perform ghusl with one sa‘ up to five amdad, and perform wudu’ with one mudd. Maintaining this specific amount is recommended, not obligatory. Overspending in the use of water for wudu’ is blameworthy, and Allah does not love the extravagant. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade extravagance in it, even if one were on a flowing river. What is meant by isbagh (making wudu’ thorough) is completing and perfecting wudu’. This can be achieved with one mudd of water. If isbagh is not achieved with this amount, there is no harm in increasing it, as long as it does not reach the point of extravagance.
