It is permissible for a poor son who has no provider and is unable to earn a living to take his sustenance in a reasonable manner from his wealthy mother's money, and this is the preferred view among some scholars. However, if he is able to earn a living, then it is not permissible for him to do so. Some scholars hold the view that if he is taking care of his mother and is poor, then he may eat from her money in a reasonable manner.
