What is the ruling on reading the Qur’an collectively for the deceased during the days of mourning, and does it have any basis in the Sunnah?

There is nothing in the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that indicates the legality of this action. Had it been good, the Companions — may Allah be pleased with them all — would have preceded us in it.
