The exchange of currencies requires possession in the same session, either actual (hand-to-hand) or constructive (by taking a check or a bank transfer slip). Direct bank transfers are permissible for receiving lira, as constructive possession occurs.

If the transfer is through an intermediary, it is permissible if the money reaches the intermediary in lira and he converts it for your family for a fee. However, if it arrives in Riyals and he converts it himself and then transfers it to your family, it is not permissible due to the lack of mutual possession between you and him.

The solution is for each of you to have an agent in the other country, and for the two agents to complete the handover before the contracting parties separate.

If this is difficult or impractical, it is hoped that the condition of possession can be relaxed due to necessity or urgent need, especially given the circumstances of war, provided that the exchange rate and amount are agreed upon to avoid ambiguity.
