What is the ruling on one who dies as a Christian, searching for the truth, and the religion of Islam did not reach him?

Whoever has been reached by the message of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and dies without embracing Islam, he is among the people of Hellfire. This is based on his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "By Him in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, no one from among this nation, be he a Jew or a Christian, hears of me and then dies without believing in that with which I have been sent, but he will be among the people of the Fire." As for one who dies and the message has not reached him, he will be tested on the Day of Resurrection.
