Is it permissible for the suitor to see the hair of his fiancée before the marriage contract?

May Allah reward you for your eagerness to learn about religious matters. A Muslim should ask those who have knowledge about what they do not know. Scholars differ regarding what a suitor is permitted to see of his fiancée. The majority opinion is that he should not see anything more than her face and hands, and this is the most preponderant view. If "reciting Al-Fatiha" refers to the legal marriage contract, then the man is permitted what is permissible for a husband from his wife after it. However, if it refers to something else other than the legal contract, such as reciting it when announcing the engagement, then there is no basis for it in Islamic law, and it does not permit what is forbidden. If the suitor is a man of good religion and character, then one should be keen on him and accept his proposal.
