What is permissible for a man to see of his fiancée after their engagement?

A suitor is a stranger to his fiancée, and all that is forbidden to him from a strange woman is also forbidden from her. Thus, it is not permissible for him to be in seclusion with her, or to look at her 'awrah, or to touch her. However, Islamic law has permitted him to look at that which encourages him to marry her during the engagement for necessity, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "If one of you proposes to a woman, if he is able to look at that which encourages him to marry her, let him do so." If the engagement is concluded and each of them is pleased with the other, the matter reverts to its original ruling, which is the prohibition of men looking at the 'awrah of women and vice-versa, based on the Almighty's saying: "Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts."
