Are there deeds for which one will not be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection, so they are neither in the scale of good deeds nor evil deeds, or are all deeds either good deeds or evil deeds?

Man has angels who monitor all his deeds and sayings, as stated in His Almighty's saying: "And indeed, over you are guardians, Noble Recorders, Who know whatever you do," and His saying: "He utters no word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record it]." Scholars have differed whether everything that emanates from a person is recorded, or only what incurs reward or punishment. Al-Qurtubi mentioned that Ibn al-Jawza' and Mujahid said that everything is recorded, while Ikrimah said that only what is rewarded or punished is recorded. There is also an opinion that everything spoken is recorded, then permissible matters are erased. Ibn Kathir mentioned that the apparent meaning of the verse is general. On either opinion, permissible matters that are neither good deeds nor bad deeds, if done with the intention of piety for worship, are considered good deeds.
