What is the ruling on supplicating aloud for the deceased before praying over them, and is this action considered a bid‘ah (innovation)?

The practice of supplicating collectively before or after the Janazah prayer is an act closer to innovation (bid'ah), as it has not been reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him, or his Companions. The prayer itself was legislated for supplication. This action creates two detrimental effects: a deficiency in supplication during the prayer, and hardship. Moreover, acts of worship are based on divine injunction (tawqif), and it has not been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him, or his Companions that there was a collective supplication after the Janazah prayer. What is prohibited is the habitual practice of collective supplication in a manner that indicates an addition (to the religion). As for individual supplication, there is no harm in it.
