Is Neil Armstrong, who is said to have embraced Islam, still alive, and how accurate is the news of his conversion to Islam?

The circulated news about Armstrong's conversion to Islam, which mentions that he heard the Adhan (call to prayer) on the moon and then in Egypt, is not based on reliable evidence. It appears to be fake news aimed at undermining trust in religion, where stories of celebrities converting to Islam are fabricated and linked to intriguing matters to prove the authenticity of Islam, only to be later disproven. If his conversion were true, he would have emerged as a caller to Islam, unlike Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) who truly converted and has left a clear mark. We are not in need of such news to prove the authenticity of our religion. Whoever is guided, it is for his own soul, and whoever goes astray, it is against it. Allah the Almighty says: ﴿Say, "O mankind, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever errs only errs against it. And I am not over you a manager."﴾ (Yunus: 108), and His saying: ﴿Indeed, We sent down to you the Book for the people in truth. So whoever is guided - it is for [the benefit of] his soul; and whoever goes astray - it is only against it. And you are not over them a manager.﴾ (Az-Zumar: 41).
