Is it permissible for someone who is accustomed to waking up after sunrise to pray Fajr after the sun has risen, at the time of his awakening, based on the Hadith of Safwan's wife, which Al-Albani graded as authentic, and in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When you wake up, then pray"?

The Hadith is authentic, and the phrase "we hardly ever wake up" indicates that the Companion Safwan was overcome by sleep and unable to wake up [on time]. Anyone who oversleeps and misses a prayer must perform it immediately upon waking. However, it is not permissible to delay the prayer until after sunrise merely due to a habit of oversleeping, for one who is able to wake up, as this constitutes neglecting the prayer. Whoever intentionally oversleeps and misses a prayer, despite being able to wake up, is sinful and exposed to punishment. A distinction must be made between someone who is overcome by sleep despite their efforts to wake up – such a person is excused – and someone who neglects waking up and is heedless – such a person deserves punishment.
