What is the response to those who say we pray Fajr whenever we wake up, citing the hadith "The pen is lifted from three," and the saying of Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: "Indeed, our souls are in the hand of Allah; if He wills, He awakens us," and the hadith of Safwan, and the hadith "Whoever sleeps through a prayer or forgets it"?

Prayer is the pillar of faith and the second most important tenet of Islam. Allah has warned those who are negligent in performing it. A Muslim must observe prayer at its prescribed time, especially the Dawn (Fajr) prayer. Whoever performs it is under the protection of Allah. However, Allah has lifted the sin from a sleeping person who was unable to wake up for prayer, with some scholars cautioning about the necessity of taking measures to help oneself wake up. It is not permissible to sleep after the time for prayer has begun for someone who knows they will not wake up until after the prayer's time has elapsed.
