Is it obligatory to abandon a father who practices sodomy and does not stop doing so, and what should the children and family do in this case, and what is the religious ruling on that?

Sodomy is one of the gravest major sins and most heinous abominations. Its punishment in Islam is death, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever you find committing the act of the people of Lut, kill the one who does it and the one to whom it is done." You must advise your father gently, explaining the gravity of this crime and its detrimental effect on him and the family's reputation, seeking help from someone who influences him, and clarifying to him the narrations regarding the punishment for committing this abomination, while praying for his guidance. The right of fatherhood, encompassing kindness, benevolence, and obedience in what is good, remains for him. For Allah enjoined good treatment of parents, even if they are polytheists. Allah the Almighty said: "And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do." (Al-Ankabut: 8).
