Which metals are permissible to wear and pray in?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The default ruling for things is permissibility, and nothing is forbidden unless there is evidence to that effect. It is permissible for a man to wear metals and pray while wearing them, except for what is forbidden to him like gold. A silver ring and its equivalents are permissible for him, and gold is not permissible except out of necessity. As for women, they are permitted to wear gold and all types of jewelry and precious stones. Regarding iron, copper, and lead rings, there is a difference of opinion among scholars between dislike (makrooh) and permissibility. Everything permissible to wear among metals is permissible to pray in. If someone prays while wearing something impermissible to wear, he is sinful, but his prayer is valid according to most scholars.
