The answer

Adultery is a grave sin that necessitates a ḥadd (prescribed punishment) in this world and a chastisement in the hereafter. The ḥadd is not established except by clear evidence or confession. It is better for one against whom no evidence has been brought forth to conceal their sin. Repentance from adultery requires abandoning the disobedience, feeling remorse, and resolving not to return to it. The punishment in this world remits the punishment in the hereafter. Whoever commits a sin and is punished for it in this world, that punishment serves as an expiation for them. And whoever commits a sin and Allah conceals it for them, then their matter is up to Allah; if He wills, He punishes them, and if He wills, He forgives them.
