Is it permissible to change the value of a vow?

The one who makes a vow is obligated to fulfill it exactly as specified, and it is not permissible to deviate from it except for an overriding benefit that accrues to the poor, such as giving money instead of food. However, if there is no benefit for the poor, it is not permissible to give the equivalent value, and the one who made the vow must fulfill what they specified.
