How can one remember to say "Bismillah" before eating, "Alhamdulillah" after it, and "Salawat" upon the Prophet when he is mentioned?
If a Muslim forgets to say "Bismillah" (in the name of Allah) at the beginning of a meal and remembers it during the meal, he should say: "Bismillah fi awwalihi wa akhirih" (In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end). As for "Alhamdulillah" (praise be to Allah), it should be said after finishing the meal, by saying: "Alhamdulillahil-ladhi at'amani hadha at-ta'am wa razaqanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wa la quwwah" (Praise be to Allah who fed me this food and provided it for me without any strength or power from me). Some scholars are of the opinion that it is obligatory to mention Allah's name (Tasmiyah) when eating. One should also consistently send blessings upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and seek Allah's help for remembrance, gratitude, and good worship, and say "Alhamdulillah mudhakkir an-nasi" (Praise be to Allah, the Reminder of the forgetful) when fearing forgetfulness.
