What should a Muslim woman do with her neighbor who does not pray and frequently engages in backbiting and gossip? Should she avoid her by closing her door and only opening it when necessary?

The Shari'a has enjoined kindness to neighbors, even if they are non-Muslims. Among the greatest forms of kindness is inviting them to Allah, enjoining good, and forbidding evil with wisdom. Neglecting prayer, backbiting, and slandering are grave sins, but they do not negate the rights of neighborliness nor prevent showing kindness to them. It is not permissible to participate with your neighbor in backbiting and slandering; rather, you must forbid her and redirect the conversation towards what is beneficial. Otherwise, avoid sitting with her unless there is a need. Part of the duty of sincere advice is to remind neighbors of the danger of being negligent in prayer and to utilize various da'wah methods, while also frequently supplicating for their guidance. Kindness and good character have a significant impact on the acceptance of advice.
