Were there women in the time of the Prophet, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, who uncovered their faces?

There are indeed narrations indicating that some women uncovered their faces during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, such as the hadith about the woman with "suf'aa al-khaddayn" (a reddish or dark mark on her cheeks). Supporters of the niqab have responded to this by stating that some of these narrations were prior to the revelation of the verse of hijab. After its revelation, the believing women hastened to cover their faces, and the proof for this is the statement of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her: "Fa'khtamarn," meaning they covered their faces.
