It is permissible not to adhere to a specific (school of thought), except for one who follows anomalous opinions based on his whims. Whoever is qualified to examine the evidence must follow what he deems most probable. Otherwise, he must consult trustworthy scholars. It is permissible for a layperson to follow the Hanafi madhhab, or Sheikh Al-Albani, or other trustworthy scholars, provided that this is not a pursuit of concessions.
