Is it permissible for a Muslim to adopt the soundest and strongest opinions of the scholars regarding the form of prayer (Salah) and the Witr prayer, as explained by Sheikh Al-Albani based on authentic hadiths, or is it obligatory for him to adhere to a specific madhhab, such as adhering to the Hanafi madhhab to which he is accustomed?

It is permissible not to adhere to a specific madhhab (school of thought), except for one who follows anomalous opinions based on his whims. Whoever is qualified to examine the evidence must follow what he deems most probable. Otherwise, he must consult trustworthy scholars. It is permissible for a layperson to follow the Hanafi madhhab, or Sheikh Al-Albani, or other trustworthy scholars, provided that this is not a pursuit of concessions.
