What should a wife do with her husband who commits disbelief and utters words of disbelief when angry, knowing that he prays, seeks forgiveness, and is the best of men when calm, and she has children with him, loves him, and fears for him?

If a husband utters words of disbelief, such as insulting Allah, the prophets, or the religion while angry, he commits an act of disbelief for which he is not excused, and his good deeds become void. Among the rulings regarding this apostasy is the separation between him and his wife. Scholars have differed on the timing of this separation: some believe it occurs immediately, while others believe it depends on the completion of the iddah (waiting period). If the husband repents during this period, the marriage remains; otherwise, the marriage is dissolved. The wife must advise her husband by explaining the ruling on such words and the necessity of repentance and renewing his Islam. If the iddah from his apostasy has not ended before his repentance, the marriage must be renewed. If he insists on disbelief or rejects the advice, she must seek separation from him.
