What is the meaning of performing ablution thoroughly in adverse circumstances, and does this contradict wiping over socks?

"Ispagh al-wudu' 'ala al-makarih" means performing ablution completely when experiencing extreme cold or body pain. Wiping over the socks (khuffayn) is a legitimate concession (rukhsa shar'iyya) for ease and to remove hardship. There is no contradiction between washing the feet and wiping over the khuffayn; both are permissible, because Allah loves for His concessions to be availed of, just as He loves for His firm commandments to be fulfilled. Washing is better because it is an additional act and a complete performance of ablution in difficult circumstances, and it increases the "ghurra" (white blaze on the forehead) and "tahjeel" (white markings on the limbs) on the Day of Resurrection.
