Is it permissible to work in a bank temporarily when there is no other work available to support oneself and one's family?

Working in usurious banks is forbidden based on the hadith: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed the one who consumes Riba (usury), the one who pays it, the one who writes it down, and the two who witness it." And he said: "They are all alike." Thus, an employee either records usury, witnesses it, or assists in it. One must fear Allah and seek lawful employment, for Allah guarantees provision for those who fear Him. As for the state of necessity that permits the forbidden, it is when one fears for his life, and this is often a remote possibility given the abundance of lawful jobs.
