What is the ruling on a financially capable husband refusing to replace damaged furniture or provide a separate room for his daughters, and must he be obeyed if he says that his desire is to live in a tent?

We have previously explained that if any furniture that the wife or children need is damaged, the husband is obligated to provide what is necessary to meet that need, in a reasonable manner. It is also the wife's right that her husband provide her with a dwelling befitting her.

Therefore, what your husband said, that you must obey him if he moves to an inferior dwelling, is incorrect. We advise both spouses to communicate and reach an understanding regarding matters of marital life, avoiding stubbornness from either side. Let the husband know that among the best expenditures is what he spends on his wife and children, for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A dinar you spend in the way of Allah, a dinar you spend to free a slave, a dinar you give in charity to a needy person, and a dinar you spend on your family – the one with the greatest reward is that which you spent on your family."
