How can I repent from stealing when I have already returned the stolen goods to their owner, yet he has filed a lawsuit against me, knowing that I have become committed to my faith and now serve as a muezzin in a mosque?

Theft is a grave sin from which one's repentance is not complete unless the rights are returned to their owners, along with abstaining from the sin, regretting it, and resolving never to return to it. For one who repents sincerely and restitutes injustices, it is hoped that Allah will accept their repentance and transform their evil deeds into good ones, for the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin. The owner of the right should conceal (the fault of) the one who repented after their right has been restored. It would have been better to return the rights indirectly to avoid embarrassment, and mediation can be used to end the lawsuit.
