Filial piety and obedience to parents are obligatory in matters of what is good and permissible. However, a husband is not obliged to obey his parents concerning marrying a second wife if he does not desire to do so, and he is not considered disobedient for refusing, as stated by Ibn Taymiyyah. Nevertheless, if he fears falling into , such as injustice among wives, then it is not permissible for him to marry. In all cases, he must seek to appease his parents and treat them gently.
