Is it permissible to return to masturbation when experiencing an intense desire to commit zina, knowing that a vow was made to abandon it?

One should make frequent supplications (Du'a), especially with the prophetic supplications such as: "O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency (or richness)" and "O Allah, grant my soul its piety and purify it, for You are the best of those who purify it, You are its Guardian and Master." If emigration from a place where abominations abound is not possible, then one must be patient and refrain from bad habits like masturbation. Some scholars, such as Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, have permitted masturbation out of necessity to avert a greater evil like fornication (zina), or when there is a physical need, such as the fear of health harm if one does not release the excess of their desire. Nevertheless, one should not be lenient in resorting to it except in cases of extreme necessity.
