It is not permissible to resort to in vitro fertilization (IVF) except in cases of genuine necessity, such as the inability to conceive naturally, and the Shariah regulations for this must be observed. The default is for a woman to perform this procedure, and if she is unavailable or not skilled, a trustworthy Muslim male doctor may do so, while avoiding private seclusion (khalwah) by having the husband or another woman present. Conceiving a child through this method is not a flaw or a sin for the parent if they are reproached for it.
