Are pictures and drawings in educational books unlawful, is drawing by hand more unlawful than pictures, and what is the legal evidence for that?

The prohibition of drawing animate beings by hand is agreed upon by the majority of scholars. As for photographing them with a camera, this is a matter of dispute among contemporary scholars. Regarding the effacement of images, its origin is the statement of Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: "Do not leave any statue but you efface it, nor any elevated grave but you level it." In another narration: "Nor any image but you efface it."
