What is the ruling on taking a sum of money from the Ministry of Social Solidarity—a death benefit—knowing that the deceased (the father) died in an accident, and the heirs are not in need of the money? And is this money lawful or unlawful after taking it?

If the grant is disbursed through insurance companies or social solidarity funds that involve impermissible (Sharia-wise) elements, it is not permissible to benefit from it except for the amount that was deducted from the deceased. The remainder should be given as charity to those in need and for public welfare (excluding mosques). However, if it is a pure donation from the state to care for its citizens, without any deceptive practices, then there is no harm in it.
