Is purchasing from stores that offer prize draws—when the invoice exceeds a certain amount and the name is entered into the draw—considered unlawful, knowing that the purchased items will be used at home?

For prize draws to be permissible, it is stipulated that the merchant must not raise the price of the commodity because of the prizes, and that the primary intention of the buyer must be to benefit from the commodity. If the merchant does not raise the price of the commodity above the market price, and the buyer purchases the commodity out of need for it, then there is no harm in that. However, if the merchant raises the price, or if the primary intention of the buyer is the prize, then this is considered forbidden gambling ( Maysir ).
