Why do not sheikhs, students of knowledge, and imams of mosques wear the iqal?

The reason sheikhs and students of knowledge abandon the 'iqal is not due to asceticism. Rather, the basic principle concerning clothing is permissibility, unless there is a legitimate Sharia proof that prohibits it. Wearing the 'iqal is permissible, and scholars have not spoken about its prohibition or dislike, because it is among natural customs, like other garments, and is not an act of worship. It is better for the scholar and the student of knowledge to observe the prevailing custom in their country. However, it is obligatory for men to avoid wearing 'iqal made of natural silk, as it is forbidden for them.
