Is it permissible to shorten and combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers daily when traveling 118 kilometers for study?

The distance for qasr (shortening prayers) according to the majority of scholars is approximately 83 kilometers. This distance is calculated after passing the last buildings of the city, not from one's own home. If the distance you travel daily for study reaches or exceeds the qasr distance, then shortening and combining prayers become permissible for you. It is not permissible to shorten prayers inside the city after performing the Dhuhr prayer in full, because the permissibility of qasr and combining prayers begins after the traveler has passed all the houses of his village and what is connected to them. Ibn Qudamah said: "Whoever intends to travel may not shorten prayers until he leaves the houses of his village." The traveler has the choice between shortening and completing the prayers, but shortening is better, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "It is a charity that Allah has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity." And his saying: "Indeed, Allah loves that His concessions be availed of, just as He loves that His firm injunctions be fulfilled."
