What is the ruling on planting trees in an Eid prayer area and the like?

Planting trees in the Eid prayer area is permissible, and may even be recommended if their shade is needed. However, it is preferable to keep the prayer area open to demonstrate the grandeur of Islam and the large number of Muslims. When planting trees, their lower parts should be cleared so as not to obstruct those praying, while their upper parts should be left for shade.
