Is it permissible to distribute religious tapes for the sake of the deceased during a condolence gathering?

Distributing tapes of educational lessons and beneficial lectures on behalf of the deceased is considered ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah) from which the deceased benefits. It is among the best deeds the living can offer to the dead. The sacred texts have unanimously affirmed that the reward of such charity reaches the deceased. It has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that the reward for charity given on behalf of the deceased reaches them, and the imams, such as Al-Shafi’i, Al-Nawawi, Ibn Taymiyyah, and Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami, have concurred on this. There is no harm in distributing these tapes as charity on behalf of the deceased during a condolence gathering or afterwards, provided that it is not believed that charity given during days of mourning has a special merit or is essential for the deceased.
