What should a wife do towards her husband who is very suspicious and has ill thoughts, who accuses her of betrayal and disobedience, prevents her from communicating with her family, controls every detail of her life, and threatens her with divorce if she disagrees with him?
Jealousy is a good trait if it is in its rightful place, and it is of two types: jealousy that Allah loves when there is suspicion, and jealousy that Allah dislikes when there is no suspicion. The husband must be moderate in his jealousy, and his obedience is not absolute. He is not to be obeyed in matters that are impermissible, such as cutting off obligatory family ties, unless harm results from the visit. The wife should draw closer to her husband and understand his personality to gain his trust, by adhering to her and obeying him in not leaving the house without his permission, and not allowing anyone into the house except those he approves of. Interacting with those who are more moderate and knowledgeable may help temper his jealousy.
