Is it permissible to perform the obligatory prayer with ablution (wudu') that was intended for the purification required to recite the Qur'an?

The jurists differed regarding someone who performs ablution for something for which purity is recommended, while being in a state of ritual impurity (hadath). Does their ritual impurity get lifted or not?

- Malikis and Shafi'is: Their ritual impurity is not lifted, and they cannot use it for things that require purity, such as prayer. - Hanbalis: Their ritual impurity is lifted. - Hanafis: Intention (niyyah) in ablution is not a condition for the validity of prayer; rather, it is sunnah (recommended) for the ablution to be an act of worship.

The most cautious approach is to intend the lifting of ritual impurity when performing ablution for reciting the Qur'an, so that prayer performed with it is valid.
