Is scattering salt and the custom of the "Subuʿ" generally forbidden or merely disliked (makruh)?

The Sebou’ (seventh-day celebration) is an innovation that has no basis [in Islamic tradition]. It contains objectionable practices that are impermissible, such as beating the mortar and sprinkling salt, believing that this benefits the newborn and wards off the evil eye. It is also a waste and squandering of money, and it could be polytheism (shirk) if done to seek closeness to the jinn. These customs should be replaced with the Aqiqah, which is a prophetic Sunnah, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Every child is mortgaged by his Aqiqah, which should be slaughtered on his seventh day."
