Is it permissible to pray behind an imam about whom rumors of indecency are heard, while not being certain of their authenticity?

There is no impediment to praying behind an imam about whom one hears things that contravene the Sharia, if he adheres to the rulings of prayer. It should be noted that the default is the innocence of a Muslim from what is attributed to him until it is verified, and one must beware of delving into people's reputations. It is not permissible to abandon the congregational prayer due to what is heard about the imam.
