What is the ruling regarding the 'Umrah of one who became confused about the number of circuits during the tawaf and did not inform her mother, whom she had entrusted with counting? And is expiation required of her, or must she inform her mother?
If it is highly probable that seven circuits (tawaf) have been completed, then the tawaf is valid, and there is nothing upon either of you. However, if there is doubt about the number of circuits, then the tawaf is not sufficient according to the majority of scholars. According to the Hanafis, the tawaf is considered valid, but each of you must offer a sacrifice (dam). This dam is to be slaughtered in Mecca and distributed among the poor of the Haram, and by doing so, the Umrah becomes valid and sufficient.
