Is it permissible to be named with Christian names or names of gods/idols, especially if the person bears a Christian name unknowingly, such as "Maya" or "Yara"?

Names affect the soul, and Islam has given importance to them, commanding their beautification and prohibiting naming with names specific to non-Muslims that carry their slogans or religious meanings. The prohibition becomes more severe if the names are for deities or idols, or if they imply servitude to other than Allah. Such names must be changed immediately, following the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him). A Muslim would not accept for himself or his child to be named with corrupt names that contradict his faith and morals.
