1 min readAlso available in العربية

The foundations of innovation upon which the people of innovation build their innovations, and their common characteristics, are:

1. Division (Firqa): Allah the Almighty said: "Indeed, those who divided their religion and became sects - you are not [associated] with them in anything."

2. Following whims and desires (Hawa): Allah the Almighty said: "Have you seen he who takes his god as his [own] desire, and Allah sends him astray knowingly?"

3. Following the ambiguous (Mutashabih): Allah the Almighty said: "As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]."

4. Contradicting the Sunnah with the Qur'an: And claiming sufficiency in the Qur'an over the Sunnah.

5. Hate for the People of the Narration (Ahl al-Athar): And slandering them.

6. Attributing titles to the People of the Sunnah: With the intention of disparaging them.

7. Abandoning the adoption of the methodology of the Pious Predecessors (Salaf): And moving away from following them.

8. Declaring those who disagree with them as disbelievers without proof: As done by the Khawarij, the Mu'tazilah, and the Jahmiyyah.
