Is it permissible to slaughter a Sadaqah (charitable offering) on the day of Arafah?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to slaughter the Udhiyah (sacrificial animal) on the day of Arafah because its designated time for slaughter is on the Day of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha), after the Eid prayer. As for a slaughtered animal intended as charity and not as Udhiyah, there is no reported virtue in slaughtering it on the day of Arafah. Restricting that day to slaughter and believing there is virtue in it is an innovation (bid'ah), unless it is not a habitual practice for a person and they wish to slaughter for themselves and their family and donate it as charity; in this case, there is no harm. However, it should be noted that delaying the Eid slaughter until the last days of Tashreeq (the days following Eid al-Adha) misses the Sunnah of slaughtering and eating from the Udhiyah after the Eid prayer.
