Why does Allah Almighty — Who is Just — permit the tormenting of animals, which are not held accountable, by humans, even though His justice necessitates that they not be subjected to any torment?
Among the sins of human beings for which they will be held accountable is causing pain to animals without right. On the Day of Judgment, injustices will be returned to their rightful owners, even to animals. The actions of Allah the Almighty cannot be measured by the actions of humans, and it is impossible to fully comprehend Allah's wisdom in His creation and command. Allah has the highest example, and not everything that is considered an injustice or ugly from a servant is likewise from the Lord. Scholars of kalām have differed on the issue of slaughtering animals: some say that pain is removed from them, while others believe that Allah compensates them. Meanwhile, the People of Sunnah and Community hold that Allah's permission to slaughter animals is a disposition by the Owner over His own property.
