ما معنى كلمة "المصنفات"؟

“Musannafat” are compositions (mu’allafat), derived from the word “tasneef,” which means distinguishing things from one another. A “musannaf” means that which is distinguished from other categories and types.

In the اصطلاح (technical terminology) of the Hadith scholars, “Musannafat” are books arranged according to chapters of Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and they contain Marfoo’ (prophetic traditions directly attributed to the Prophet), Mawqoof (sayings or actions of companions), and Maqtoo’ (sayings or actions of Successors) narrations. This means they include prophetic hadiths, sayings of the Companions, fatwas of the Tabi’in (Successors), and sometimes fatwas of the followers of the Tabi’in.
