Is exhuming the graves of the pharaohs, uncovering the faces of the dead, and displaying their bodies in museums, under the pretext of learning about the history of the pharaonic dynasties, permissible or forbidden?

It is permissible to exhume the grave of a polytheist if it has become effaced and no trace of it remains, because it has no sanctity. As for a Muslim, it is not permissible to exhume their grave except out of necessity, or to achieve a preponderant benefit, or if the graves have decayed and no flesh or bone remains. As for exhuming the graves of disbelievers to seek money buried with them, some scholars, such as Malik and Al-Awza'i, disliked it, citing the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition of entering the dwellings of those who were punished except weeping, for fear that what befell them might befall them, or out of concern of encountering the grave of a prophet or a righteous man.
