What is the ruling on a son shouting at his father, who suffers from "chronic schizophrenia" and exhibits unacceptable behaviors—such as bringing in impurities and leaving the bathroom in public places—after gentle attempts at advice have failed, in order to deter him from such actions?

The practical religious obligation (taklif shar'i) is lifted from someone who has lost their memory (amnestic) and someone afflicted with a mental disorder (ma'tuh or imbecile). Therefore, prayer, fasting, and similar acts are not obligatory upon them. However, financial obligations remain tied to their wealth. The family of the person who has lost their memory must prevent them from causing corruption and destruction by the best means possible, even if it requires strictness when necessary, without causing harm to them. It is recommended to treat them with ruqya (Islamic exorcism/healing through Quranic recitation) and du'a (supplication), and to monitor them to avoid impurity on their bedding and clothes, and to deal with them gently.
