Is combing the hair with a comb while performing ghusl after menstruation or major ritual impurity considered an innovation (bid‘ah), or is it permissible, and what is its legal evidence?

A woman combing her hair for ghusl (ritual bath) after menstruation or major ritual impurity (janabah) is not considered an innovation (bid'ah). Scholars have differed regarding the obligation for a woman to undo her braids when performing ghusl. The preponderant opinion is that she is not required to undo them for ghusl after menstruation or major ritual impurity if the water reaches the roots of her hair. This is based on what was narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about undoing her braids for ghusl after major ritual impurity, and he forbade her, informing her that three handfuls of water would suffice her. Furthermore, it was narrated that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reproached Abdullah ibn Amr for instructing women to undo their hair for ghusl. She mentioned that she and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to bathe from a single vessel and she would not do more than pour three handfuls of water over her head.
