The question

Does the ruling on istihadah (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) or سلس ( سلس البول: urinary incontinence, سلس الريح: anal flatulence, سلس المذي: seminal fluid discharge, or سلس الودي: prostatic fluid discharge) cease when the yellowish discharge stops after performing istinja (washing the private parts with water)? And is it obligatory to perform istinja and wudu (ablution) for every prayer, or is wudu alone sufficient?

The answer

Not performing ablution for every prayer for a woman with Istihadha (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding) and someone afflicted with urinary incontinence ( سلس البول) is the view of the Maliki school. The criterion for someone afflicted with incontinence according to them is one whose impurity is continuous for half the time or more. So, if the yellowish discharge (صفرة) accompanies the woman for half the time or more, her ablution is not invalidated by its emission according to the Malikis; rather, it is invalidated by a normal impurity. As for the majority of scholars, they hold that yellowish discharge is impure and necessitates (washing private parts) and ablution. If the emission of yellowish discharge continues throughout the entire time such that the woman does not find sufficient time to pray with a valid purification, or if its interruption is irregular, then her ruling is that of someone afflicted with incontinence. She should perform ablution after the prayer time begins and pray both obligatory and supererogatory prayers with this ablution. However, if she knows that the yellowish discharge ceases for a specific, regular period sufficient for purification and prayer, then she must pray during that period with a valid purification.
