Semen (mani) is distinguished from pre-seminal fluid (madhi) by clear differences. Semen is discharged forcefully and gushingly at the peak of pleasure, followed by relaxation. It is a gushing fluid, often thick and white, with a smell like pollen or dough, and it necessitates ghusl (ritual bath). As for pre-seminal fluid, it is discharged at the onset of lesser pleasure and after erection, without gushing. It is a thin, whitish, sticky fluid, and its discharge may not even be felt. It necessitates washing the private parts and performing wudu (ablution). Therefore, if something with the characteristics of semen is discharged, ghusl is required. If it has the characteristics of pre-seminal fluid, then ghusl is not required of you.
